Edith Robbins Mitchell, age 86, a beloved Vocational Home Economics and Family and Consumer Science teacher and Chapter Advisor for the Future Homemakers of America  at Dickson High School and Dickson County High School for 35 years, died July 11, 2015 at NHC in Dickson, TN.  

She is survived by her children, Kathryn Mitchell Jones of Franklin, TN and Melanie Mitchell (David) Gunter of Athens, TN; grandchildren, David Mitchell (Nicole) Jones, and Eric Kendall Jones; great-grandchildren Elijah William Jones and Luke Mitchell Jones; son-in-law Thomas N. Jones, all of Franklin;  sister, Mary Bridges, Clinton, TN; brother-in-law, William Wilson of Mt. Airy, MD; sisters-in-law, Reba Mitchell Brown of Nashville, and Frances Jones of Knoxville. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Kenneth Kyle Mitchell; her parents, Jerome and Jemima Duncan Robbins of Clinton, TN; her sisters,  Esther Rice, Middlesboro, KY, Ruth Braden, Knoxville, TN, Ada Misek, Clinton, TN, Claudia Jones, Knoxville, TN, Marjorie Wallace, Alcoa, TN, and Bonnie Wilson, Mt. Airy, MD.

Born October 29, 1928, a resident of Dickson, TN, and formerly from Anderson County, TN, she was a  member of the American and Tennessee Home Economics Associations, the Tennessee and Dickson County Education Associations, and the Dickson County Retired Teacher Association.  She served as a TN Career Ladder State Evaluator and as a Supervising Teacher for student teachers from Middle TN State University and Austin Peay State University.  She received several honors and awards by her professional peers in the TN Association of Vocational Home Economics Teachers (now Family and Consumer Science) and the TN Vocational Association (now Career and Technology) as well as being on the organizing committees for both the National and TN Association of Vocational Home Economics Teachers. She was a 1947 graduate of Clinton High School and a 1951 graduate of the University of Tennessee where she received a B.S degree in Home Economics.  She also received the M.A. degree from George Peabody College in 1969 and 45 additional graduate hours in Education, Guidance, Administration and Supervision from the University of Tennessee - Nashville. She was an active member of The First United Methodist Church in Dickson, Gideon Carr Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Dickson Study Club, Ladies Literary Club, and the Friday Review Club. She had many hobbies including reading, sewing for her children, cooking nutritious meals for her family, and was especially known for the extensive daffodil garden which she and her husband started in 1983.

Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 from 2:00pm – 8:00pm, and Wednesday, July 15, 2015 from 11:00am - 1:30pm at Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson, TN. Services will be conducted Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at 2:00pm, at First United Methodist Church in Dickson, TN with Steven Lee officiating. Place of rest will be Dickson County Memorial Gardens. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Jim and Sharon Webster, Patricia Spicer, Betty Williams, Rex and Elaine Kimbro, Janice Lampley, Brenda Zbozien, Jim Clemmer, Cathy Folk Clemmer, former FHA Chapter Officers from DHS and DCHS, members of the Fellowship Sunday School Class, Gideon Carr Chapter – DAR, Dickson Study Club, Literary Club,  Review Club, Dickson County Retired Teachers Association, and former Co-workers.  Donations may be made to the Tennessee FFA Foundation, P.O.
