Born in Dickson, Tennessee, Robert was the son of the late Edward Nichols and the late Katie Gordon Nichols Totty. A hard worker, Robert was previously employed with the former Alvin Jones Chevrolet Dealership. He held several other jobs before retiring as a private-duty groundskeeper. Robert was preceded by his wife, Margaret Lewis Nichols; four daughters, Katie Smith, Rosetta Sanders, Lola Ann Donovan, and Mary Alice Nichols. He was a faithful member of Dickson’s former Original Church of God and more recently Nashville’s 40th Avenue Original Church of God.
Survivors include his three daughters, Margaret L. Sanders, Dickson, Virginia H Russell (Larry), Gallatin, and Brenda J. Thompson (Joe), Dickson; his four sons, Robert S. Nichols, Nashville; Charles H. Nichols (Banida), David E. Nichols, and Fred J. Nichols, all of Dickson; a brother, John H. Nichols (Magnolia), Franklin; sisters, Lula Tucker and Ahnighito Drake, both of Nashville; brother-in-law, Paul Lewis, Nashville; sisters-in-law, Annie North (Berry), Caline Green, and Gertha North, all of Nashville; 23 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
