Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, May 1, at 12 noon from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens. Visitation with the family will be from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday evening and from 10 a.m. until time of service on Tuesday morning.

For those desiring, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Clay Mattox, age 78, of White Bluff, TN passed from this life on April 27, 2018.

He was born October 29, 1939 in Lawrenceburg, TN to the late Collie and Angie Townsend Mattox. Clay was a Master Jeweler and Clock Maker by trade. He learned this trade under Master Jeweler, Roscoe Wood and world-renowned clock maker, J.E. Coleman. He had a great talent for using his hands that was sought after by many jewelry stores across the nation. Mr. Mattox owned and operated Mattox Jewelers for over 40 years with locations in Nashville, Waverly, and Erin. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, as well as working in the garden and cooking. He loved being around people and was known as a social butterfly.

He was married to the love of his life, Frances Violet Mattox for nearly 58 years.

Clay was preceded in death by his parents, Collie and Angie Mattox; his siblings, Noel, Vola, Christine, Austin, and Carlene; and his grandson, Nathaniel Clay.

Mr. Mattox is survived by his two children, Gail Mattox Lynch (Frank) of McEwen, and Chris Mattox (Carla) of White Bluff; siblings, Hazel Perry of Alabama, Collie Mattox, Jr. (Mary), Kathleen Violet (Paul), and Lucille Franklin (Bobby) all of Tennessee; grandchildren, Callie Mattox (Will) and Connor Mattox (Brooke); several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Kenny Phillips and Mark Violet.
