Funeral services for Iva Colene Baker Sykes, age 85, of Columbia, formerly of Dickson, will begin at 12 noon Monday, January 14, 2019 from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Peter Sierson officiating. Interment will follow in the Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery in Cunningham, TN. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4 until 8 p.m. and on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of service. For those desiring, memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association. Mrs. Sykes died January 11, 2019 at Poplar Estates Retirement Center in Columbia.
Born in Scott County, Missouri, Colene was the daughter of the late John Clyde and Pearl Mae Baker Cook. She was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her husband, Dewie O’Neal Sykes. Colene was currently a member of New Song Baptist Church in Columbia and formerly a member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Cunningham.
Survivors include her children, Rick Neal Sykes (Sandi), Columbia, TN, and Delinda Estes (Bryan Butler), Dickson, TN; her brothers, Garry Cook (Mary), Farmington Hills, MI and Larry Joe Cook, Birmingham, AL; five grandsons, Josh Sykes, Jake Sykes (Jerrica), Jason Sykes (Chelsey), Chad Trotter (Samantha), and Bradley Trotter (Shelby); six great-grandchildren, Dane Sykes, Ava Sykes, Parker Sykes, Makenna Sykes, Lincoln Sykes, and Savannah Trotter.
