Funeral services for Bro. Robert Lewis “Bob” Baggett will begin at 1 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2019 from First Free Will Baptist Church, Dickson, with Bro. Jim Carrington and Bro. Wayne Bess officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Sylvia, with Bro. Stan Coker officiating. Visitation with the family will also be at the church on Thursday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. and on Friday from 11 a.m. until service time. For those desiring, memorials may be made to Cumberland Youth Camp, Woodlawn, TN or to Free Will Baptist International Missions. Bro. Bob died Monday, April 22, 2019 at Horizon Medical Center. Arrangements are under the direction of Taylor Funeral Home.
Born in Sylvia, Tennessee, Bob was a son of the late Edgar and Mary Ethel Perry Baggett. He graduated from Charlotte High School, Class of 1952. Bro. Bob retired as a first-class welder from the Nashville Bridge Co. But his “true calling” was to lead souls to Christ as a minister in the Free Will Baptist Church. He was active in many programs of the Church and was especially dedicated to children and youth ministries, Free Will Baptist Associational ministries, and home and foreign missions. He was married for 54 years to his wife, Ollie Mai Hogue Baggett, who preceded him in death in 2011. Bro. Bob served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a loving family man, a Christian servant of God, and a fiercely loyal patriot of freedom and country. He was widely known and easily recognized by his “trademark” handlebar mustache.
Survivors include his three daughters, Clarissa Layton (Vance), Omega Chappell, all of Dickson, and Gay Osborn (Todd) of Charlotte; nine grandchildren, Patrick Layton, Vanessa Bartrum (James), Jeremy Layton (Crystal), Michaela Hughes, Alex Chappell (Pipi), Natalie Villa (Mauricio), Grant Osborn, Jr. (Mallory), Robert Osborn (Jamie), and Cassie Ingram (Daniel); 32 great grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Bess of Goodlettsville and June Adams Baskin of White Bluff; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by siblings, Guy Baggett, Russell Baggett, Jimmy Baggett, Johnny Baggett, Hazel Hafner, Margaret Edwards, and Mary Della Aman.
