Date of Service

Kitty Fox Mayo died March 26, 2025 under hospice care in Dickson after 2 separate battles with cancer. She was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA to William and Marion Malsberger but most of her childhood was in Jacksonville, FL and then on to Florida State University where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in 1968. Kitty met her husband Tom and moved with him to his home state and they settled in the 70’s in Charlotte, TN.

She taught History for a few years at Charlotte Middle School and then they eventually opened Volume One Book Shop which was open for over 30 years. She also loved genealogy and researching for other families. She worked at the State Archives for a few years also doing research. She also loved gardening, getting outside in the dirt with her herbs and flowers brought her much joy and she didn’t mind the mess. Kitty and Tom loved taking the grandkids swimming when they were younger or go watch them at t-ball or cheerleading. She loved a nice conversation on her back porch before bedtime. We all wish her a nice conversation on a porch with her true love Tom and a nice glass of Pinot.

Sonnet to Life

For Kitty

Despair closes doors to all things once dreamed

Gentle things beyond the reach of tender hand

Life’s force hangs by thread, all but lost it seems

Hearts cry for release and mind demands

Hope opens doors sealed by things since gone by

There is still something more of life to know

Sun Rise-New Day-life’s force faces clear sky

Hearts feel release from chains of daily woe

Joy comes from freedom, the world’s fresh a’ flower

Today’s quick with life, the souls no longer numb

Bright things to be, seems the world is on fire

Hearts are released for happiness to come

Despair, Hope, Joy, the cycle’s complete

Today for happiness tomorrow to seek
