About Us

A Legacy of Compassionate Service

Our Story

For over a century, Taylor Funeral Home has been a cornerstone of the Dickson community, providing comfort and dignified service to families in their time of need. Our story is one of family, dedication, and a commitment that has been passed down through generations. We invite you to explore our journey.
Founded by Brothers

1909 - A Foundation of Family

In 1909, our story began when Thomas M. Taylor, alongside his brother D. Talmage Taylor who joined him in 1916, established the Taylor Funeral Home. What started as a humble furniture and undertaking business on Main Street soon became a dedicated service to the community. In 1920, their brother Marvin Taylor also joined the growing family enterprise.
A Legacy Continued

1948 Passing the Torch of Service

On January 1, 1948, after years of dedicated ownership with his wife, Stella, Talmage Taylor entrusted the funeral home to James and Lilah Pearl Woodall. In a touching continuation of the family legacy, Talmage and Stella’s daughter, Jean, and her husband, Thomas E. Woodall, also became partners in the business, ensuring that the founding family’s values remained at the heart of our operations.
Ensuring Local Ownership

1978 - A New Generation of Dedication

The tradition of family-focused care continued in August 1978 when Robert T. Marvin, Jr. and his wife, Cynthia, invested in the funeral home. Having been a dedicated member of our team since 1973, Mr. Marvin’s transition to ownership in May 1983 was a natural progression, cementing our commitment to being a locally owned and operated establishment.
Unwavering Early Commitment

Early Days of Service - A Reflection on Our Roots

We cherish the rich history that has shaped us. In our earliest days, when horse-drawn hearses graced the streets, individuals like Ike and Nancy Shawl were integral to our work, keeping the horses ready at their stable. We remember stories of Talmage Taylor riding the “Accommodation” to Kingston Springs to care for the departed, a testament to the unwavering dedication that has always defined our service.
Generations of Trust

Our Enduring Promise - Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow

Times have certainly changed since our telephone number was just three digits and a funeral service cost $71.00. While we have embraced modern customs and technologies to better serve you, our core values remain unchanged. The professionalism, compassion, and small-town care that the Taylor brothers began with over a century ago continue to be the cornerstones of our service to you today. We are proud to have served some families for four generations and are honored to continue this legacy of trust with our community.
