Graveside burial services will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Union Cemetery with Eddie Mullinax officiating. Baxter Garner Potter, age 97, died Friday, February 11, 2022 at his home in New Johnsonville, TN.

Mr. Potter, formerly of Dickson, TN, was born September 18, 1924 in Hickman County, TN to Ludie Arminta Estes and Willie Baxter Potter. Like many young men during WWII, Mr. Potter quit high school to join the Navy. He served his country during WWII as a radio operator aboard a ship in the North Pacific near the Aleutian Islands. Following the war, Mr. Potter earned his high school diploma and became an electrician. Later, he also taught night classes in welding at the vocational school in Dickson. He retired from the New Johnsonville DuPont plant where he worked as an electrician in the maintenance department. Mr. Potter was a member of the Missionary Grove Baptist Church in Camden, TN.

Mr. Potter was a kind, loving, and generous person who gave to many charitable organizations and to individuals who needed a little help. In his spare time, Mr. Potter enjoyed reading and studying the Bible; having read it cover-to-cover over 300 times. He also enjoyed watching videos about WWII, and while he was able, doing various kinds of woodworking projects, which he gave to his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Pearl Potter; his step-son, Jimmy Reed and his wife, Kathy; his brother, Grover Potter; his sisters, Ruth Arthurs and Leta Luther. He was also preceded by an infant half-brother and an infant sister.

Mr. Potter is survived by his son, Don Potter (Cyndi Oliver) of Gulfport, MS and several nieces and a nephew.
