Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, June 17, 2024, at 2:00PM from the chapel of the Taylor Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024, from 4:00PM until 8PM, on Sunday, June 16, 2024, from 4:00PM until 8PM, and on Monday, June 17, 2024, from 10AM until the time of service. Pastor Wes Sesler will officiate. Burial will follow in the Ryes Chapel Cemetery.

Jason Stokes, Dalton Stokes, Hunter Stokes, Elie LaRue, Donnie Kilian, Clint Welker, Spencer Myers, Glen Wilson, Jeff Kilian, and Mark Blackwell will serve as casket bearers.

Bobby Joe Stokes, age 75, of Cumberland Furnace, TN, passed away on June 11, 2024, at Alive Hospice in Nashville, TN.

Bobby was born on August 11, 1948, in Cumberland Furnace, TN, to the late Robert (Bob) L. Stokes and Mary F. Spot Stokes.

Bobby Joe was a self-employed Farmer, County Commissioner for several years, he was fire captain at Cumberland Furnace Volunteer Fire Department for a while, and a member of the Cumberland Furnace Volunteer Fire Department. He was also the president of the Cumberland Furnace Community Center for several years and a very well-known member of the Cumberland Furnace Community.

He enjoyed farming, spending time with his wife, time with family, fishing, and helping out at the Community Center with BBQ’s and other things they needed. He loved helping out at the fire department doing things, and he enjoyed his time as county commissioner. He also enjoyed helping his friends and people around the community. Bobby Joe never met a stranger.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Robert (Bob) L. Stokes and Mary F. Spot Stokes, his sister; Martha N. Sullivan and brother; William R. (Bill) Stokes.

He is survived by his wife; Brenda L. Stokes of Cumberland Furnace, TN, his son; John H. Stokes (Lottie) of Cumberland Furnace, TN, sisters; Treva D. Lee (David) of Dickson, TN, Brenda K. Buchanan (James) of Burns, TN, 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 4 nieces, and 2 nephews.
