Charles also known as “Charlie” Edward Hampton, age 77 of Dickson, died August 23, 2016. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 from 4:30pm until 8pm at the Taylor Funeral Home. A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, August 25, 2016 at 3pm at the Taylor Funeral Home. Place of rest will be in the Union Cemetery.

Charles was born December 9, 1938 in West Memphis, Arkansas. He began painting billboards in his teens in Arkansas. He moved to Louisiana for a short period of time before moving to Tennessee. In 1966 “Charles Hampton’s A-1 Signs” was created. Mr. Hampton built the business from the ground up. He installed signs all over the United States, and then many were local for Dickson County businesses. He was the owner/operator of the business until 2008.

He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Street of Nunnelly; his son, Mitch Hampton of Dickson; 2 half sisters, Mary and Groverlyn, both of Arkansas; 3 grandchildren, Alexis Hampton, Jeremy Keiper, Jason D. Street; 7 Great Grandchildren.
