Glenn Hyde Layton, age 88 of Dickson, TN passed away on January 18, 2025. The funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon Friday, January 24, 2025 at the Taylor Funeral Home with Bro. Doug Smith officiating. Full Military Honors will be rendered at the graveside at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens at 3:00 PM Friday. The visitation will be held on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of service.

Mr. Layton was born on April 30, 1936 to Ezra James Layton and Bessie Fern (Hyde) Layton in Clatskanie, Oregon. He joined the Armed Forces in 1953. When he retired from the service in 1973, he was a 1SG E-8.

He received the following medals while in service: National Defense Service Medal w/OLC, Parachutist Badge, Driver and Mechanics Badge, Vietnam Service Medal 2/1 Silver and 2 Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60Device, Bronze Star Medal w/OLC, Good Conduct Medal (4 th award), Civil Actions Honor Medal 2d Class, Meritorious Unit Commendation w/OLC, Air Medal, and Purple Heart w/OLC.

After he retired from the Army, he was the Parts and Service Manager for Sanders International Equipment Company in Dickson. He finished his working career as a mailman for the Waverly Post Office.

Mr. Layton enjoyed the hobbies of watercolors, woodworking, gardening and antiquing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Layton; grandson, George Bailey; and stepson, Tony Lee.

Mr. Layton is survived by his daughter, Glenda Hasley (Terry); son, Vance Layton (Clarissa); stepdaughter, Michelle Locklear (David); step-sons, Mike Lee (Tammy) and Philip Lee (Angela); grandchildren, Jason Galbreath (Barbie), Glenn Bailey, Patrick Layton, Jeremy Layton (Crystal), Vanessa Bartrum (James). Also surviving are several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
