Mr. John Collier Lewis, age 87, of Charlotte, TN, passed away peacefully Friday, November 7, 2025. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at the Taylor Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Jones officiating. Interment with Military Honors will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Charlotte, TN. Visitation will be on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the time of service.
Born in Charlotte, Tennessee, on September 28, 1938, he was the son of the late James Collier Lewis and the late Leora Caldwell Lewis.
Mr. Lewis was drafted into the United States Army in 1961 and completed five months of training at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. He was stationed at the U.S. Army Garrison Schweinfurt in Germany, where he served for 18 months until 1963. His duties included driving a personnel carrier to transport troops and operating military trucks. During his service, Mr. Lewis earned the Army Sharpshooter Weapons Qualification Badge for marksmanship.
In 1964, Mr. Lewis married Mary Ann Beck of Nashville, TN. He began his professional career at Schrader, where he worked for 21 years in Dickson, TN, followed by 15 years with Precision Tubular in Franklin, TN. He was a faithful and beloved member of Charlotte Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Lewis loved spending summer days fishing along the Harpeth River with Mary Ann and family members. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching both college and NFL football, and followed the University of Tennessee Volunteers and the Tennessee Titans, Buffalo Bills, and Kansas City Chiefs. His nieces and nephews all loved and appreciated him for being an ever-present fixture at every holiday gathering. He delighted in being genuinely interested in knowing how everyone was doing, and always greeted everyone by name. He and Mary Ann were especially dedicated and compassionate in taking care of his mother in her later years.
Known for his pleasant and congenial nature, he loved to laugh and cut-up with family and friends. His kind spirit and easy grin will be remembered by all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
Mr. Lewis is preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Mary Ann Beck Lewis, and his brother, William Robert “Billy” Lewis. He is survived by his sisters Elizabeth Graham and Louise Biter, both of Dickson, TN; Sister-in-law Faye Lewis of Charlotte, TN. Nieces and nephews Joyce Moss of Lyles, TN; Robert (Patsy) Lewis of Watertown, TN; Alice (Greg) Blaylock of Charlotte, TN; Valerie (Karl) Littleton and Holly (Damian) Phillips, both of Dickson, TN; Amy (John) Glennon of Nashville, TN; Brad Biter of Murfreesboro, TN. Special great-nephew Gary West of Nashville, TN.
