Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at 1PM from the chapel of the Taylor Funeral Home. Bro. Nathan Wilkerson will officiate. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, from 11AM until the time of service. Burial will follow in the Tidwell Cemetery.
Nelda Louise Hooks Tidwell, age 77, passed away on April 10, 2026.
Nelda was born on November 14, 1948, in Overton County, TN, to the late Clifford Hooks and Rosie Ledbetter Hooks. She had worked in Home Health, taking care of others for many years.
Nelda was a devoted woman of faith who lived her life guided by her deep love for God. Her unwavering faith and gentle spirit were reflected in the kindness, grace, and compassion she showed to everyone around her. She found great joy and peace in the beauty of the mountains and the quiet wonder of nature, where she felt especially close to God’s presence.
Above all, Nelda cherished her family. She loved deeply and selflessly, always placing her family at the center of her heart and her life.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Ray Tidwell in 2020, her son, Marty Sylvis, her grandson, Russell Carl Sylvis, her brothers, Jerry Hooks, James Hooks, and her sister, Marie Guthrie.
Survivors include her daughters, Jessica Wise, Tracie Williams, her sister, Judy Wise, grandchildren, Kayla Williams, Shukonia Williams, Ashley Wise, Beth Wise, Michael Wise, Jessica Sylvis (Sissy), Nikki Sylvis, Lauren Sylvis, 12 Great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
