Funeral services for Ruth Hunt Scott, age 103 of Dickson, will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 3, 2024 from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Ed White officiating. She was born just after midnight on February 23, 1921, to her parents, Ollie E. Hardy Hunt and John Hunt, in Pleasant View, Tennessee, where she grew up in her large and loving family. She attended Ashland City High School and Austin Peay Teachers College, where she received her teaching certificate. She taught briefly in a one-room schoolhouse in Kingston Springs before accepting a job as secretary at Life and Casualty Insurance Company in Nashville.
Ruth married Samuel Scott on September 3, 1949, and they settled in Madison, Wisconsin, where their daughter Cheryl Ann was born. She worked as an executive secretary at American Family Insurance for 33 years, retiring in the 1980’s. In retirement, Sam and Ruth moved to Dickson, Tennessee in 1993. She was a member of Dickson First Methodist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Sam; her siblings, Robert Henderson Hunt, Eugenia Hunt Miles, Louis Hardy Hunt, Clarence Winston Hunt, John Edward Hunt, and Henry Warren Hunt; and by a beloved niece, Mary Lynn Rotenbury.
She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Scott, of Dickson, and by numerous nieces and nephews.
