  1. There really are not words to adequately honor and describe our Mother, Wanda (Mom) or Dad! Those two people adopted my brother and I at a very young age (around two and three respectively). They saved our young lives by those actions and then gave us, all four of us, Derrick, Mark, Crystal and Chuck a wonderful life!! Our young years growing up in El Cajon, California were great ones! what memories! Dad (Phillip) preceded mom in death by 18 years and we know they were happy to be reunited, finally! Mom had such a hard last four years but Nursing Home staff did as well as possible for someone suffering with Alzheimer’s for those last years! A thank you is warranted to Nana and Papa who wrote a very heart felt letter in support of Mom and Dad’s efforts at adopting their two grandchildren! As two young boys, Mark and I were close as we were only one year apart and for ten of our initial years it was just him and I with Mom and Dad. Yes, Mom was our protector but during the times she couldn’t be around, it was me! I did protect my younger brother but I tell the story with pride in having been able to do it for him, not for any thanks! Lord knows he definitely did not need it once he got older! A Great Brother! As are Crystal and Chuck. Our entire family will miss you two so much Mom and Dad, you raised us all well and Mom you were always there for me when the school system kept trying to tell you to hold me back a grade because I was “slow,” one teacher saying I was not smart enough to be promoted to third grade! It was the sixties!! She fought with them over me not being “stupid.” Thanks Mom!! I was not. We all Love you and goodnight! Rest Easy, we are okay here thanks to you BOTH! With All My Love, Derrick (Your eldest).
