Sgt. William Maurice “Morris” Baxter, US Army, Retired, age 65, passed away on September 10, 2018 at Horizon Medical Center.
Sgt. Baxter was born on February 4, 1953 in Dickson Tennessee. He served his country in the United States Army and Army Reserve for over 21 years and was deployed overseas during Desert Storm. He worked as a long-distance truck driver for 40 years for various trucking companies. In his spare time, Sgt. Baxter enjoyed line dancing, watching Nascar, wrestling, and the Dallas Cowboys. He was a good cook and had an infectious sense of humor and never met a stranger. Ultimately, he loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughter, Kelita Baxter (fiancée, Kenric Pollard); step-daughters, Jennifer (Joshua) Grant and Rachel Hall; grandchildren, Marlita, Alexia, Chloe and K.C.; step-grandchildren, Jessica, Kimberly, Kara and Zack; sister, Jane (Don) Luckett; nieces, Dawn (Jim) Stewart and Christy (Jackie) Cunningham; nephew, Bobby (Wendy) Avery; several great nieces and nephews & great-great nieces and nephews. Special friends, Allen (Glenda) Hodges, Nancy Frazier, Sherry Pardue, Brenda Ellis, Sherry Gibson; Johnny & Lou Gafford, Delilah Spencer and Linda Willoughby.
Sgt. Baxter is preceded in death by his wife, Debbie Lynn Baxter; mother, Margaret Elizabeth Baxter Smith; step-father, William Smith; brothers-in-law, Charles “Red” Curtis and Gary Lee Avery, Sr.; nephew, Lee Avery and step-granddaughter, Katherine Ivy.
