Russell Dean “Rusty” Overton, age 65, of Dickson, TN, passed from this life on August 13, 2023, at Alive Hospice Residence in Nashville.

Russell Dean Overton was born on April 14, 1958, in Dickson, Tennessee, to George Overton, Sr. and Laura Fossie Overton.   He departed this life on August 13, 2023, at Alive Hospice.  He was a faithful member of Bowman Chapel United Methodist Church in Dickson.

Russell nicknamed “Rusty” was a multi-talented young man growing up. He excelled in many areas —most notably in sports and music. He was recognized for Football, Track & Field, and Basketball. He was also a very gifted drummer who started exhibiting that gift at a very young age tapping on the tops of oatmeal boxes in the yard.   Rusty was a 1977 graduate of Dickson County High School in Dickson, TN. and started working at Ford initially in 1980, and after a time away he returned in 1988 and retired after a long, productive career in May 2008. Rusty continued working as an Automotive paint specialist in the plant when it changed ownership —finally retiring in October 2019. Rusty was very passionate about family, and friends and lived a generous life that blessed so many people. His skill at drumming remained with him for life and he was most notably joyful playing drums for his beloved Bowman Chapel UMC choir. Rusty also shared a special passion for photography and videography with his late wife Sheila —spending hours upon hours capturing special moments and memories for family and friends. Affectionately known as “Uncle Rusty” to his dozens of nieces and nephews—he was absolutely considered a favorite Uncle/Second Dad.

He is preceded in death by his father, George Overton, Sr, mother, Laura Fossie Overton Blue and his stepfather, Robert I. Blue, Sr, his sister, Bettina Overton, his brother George Overton, Jr., and his wife Sheila Martin Overton.

He leaves behind to mourn Siblings -Benny  Overton, Lori (Darrel) Tyson, Cecilia Grimsley, all of Dickson, TN, Robert (Anita) Blue, Jr., of Clarksville, TN and Randy (Sylvia) Blue of Brentwood, TN., Fiancé - Dwan Nelson, Dickson, TN, Uncle - Marvin Fossie, Aunt - Delois Fossie both of Dickson, Aunt - Bettie Robertson, Columbus, OH and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Near and dear to his heart as well were special friends and co-workers from United Auto Workers (UAW) Local 737, Ford Glass Plant, Nashville, TN.
