Joan Usrey Jones, 91, of Dickson, passed peacefully into eternal glory in the early afternoon of August 25, 2023. She was born in Kingston Springs, TN, on October 23, 1931, to Harry Norman Usrey and Wilson Booker Usrey. Growing up in the era of the Great Depression and World War II. She developed a self-reliance and independence that was evident throughout her life. After graduating from Bellevue High School in 1949, she attended St. Thomas School of Nursing where she received her RN certification and worked at the hospital caring for patients and in labor and delivery until 1954. As a teenager, she met another young Kingston Springs resident, Alvin Jones, and after a few years of on-and-off courtship, they were married on September 7th, 1952. In the later 50's, together they built the house where their children were raised and, on the same lot in White Bluff, started Alvin Jones Motors, where they worked together to build a successful business selling used cars, campers, and finally Jeep vehicles. After purchasing the Chevrolet dealership in Dickson in 1970, they continued working together to build a successful business serving the public's automotive needs. She and Alvin were married for 35 years until his passing in 1987. After that, Joan continued to be active and involved with family, especially her grandchildren. She was a long-time member of the White Bluff Church of Christ, and always instilled the values in her family that God and family are the most important things in life. She loved the outdoors, being on the farm, and gardening. She promoted organic gardening and self-sufficiency years before it became the cool thing to do. She cared deeply for other people. Her smile and joyful spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew her, especially her family.
