     Funeral mass will be Saturday September 16, 2023 at 10:30 am at St Christophers church with Father Michael Fye officiating. Shirley will be cremated and burial will take place at a later date. Visitation will be Friday September 15th from 4 to 8 pm at Taylor Funeral Home from 4-8pm with a vigil service being held at 6:30 pm by Father Abraham with a rosary following led by Chip Fye. Those desiring memorials may be made to The Dementia Society of America.
     Shirley Catherine (Knapps) Anthony passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on Sunday September 10, 2023 at NHC in Dickson from complications of Dementia, with her husband and family by her side.
     Shirley was born in Leavenworth KS on January 20, 1935. She was the youngest of 2 girls. Shirley attended the Old Cathedral grade school and Immaculata HS in Leavenworth, where she played basketball on the girls HS team. She graduated in the class of 1953 with her childhood sweetheart James Anthony. Shirley and James were married at The Old Cathedral in Leavenworth on February 19, 1955. Shirley was a devoted wife and supported her husband’s career in the Federal Prison System, where they moved many times across the US. Along the way, Shirley had several jobs including being a cosmetic distributor, Christmas seasonal help at the post office, sold milk for the national dairy, and was a realtor in Texas and in Dickson, TN. She also owned a religious gift retail store and would set up at local Catholic churches to sell religious articles. When Shirley and Jim moved to TN, she became the church secretary at St Christophers Catholic Church. Shirleys most important job in life was being a home maker and a mother to their 6 children.
     Shirley devoted her entire life to Jesus and her Catholic faith. During her life, she had the opportunity to travel to Rome and Medjugorje, where she always wanted to go because of her faith. Shirley raised her 6 children in a Christian atmosphere, teaching and guiding them daily.
     Shirley was preceded in death by her father Frederick Knapps, her mother, Julia (Finneran) Knapps and her sister Elaine Marie (Knapps) Pierron.

     Shirley is survived by her husband of 68 years, James Joseph Anthony, White Bluff, TN; sons, James Wyatt Anthony (Maggie) of San Diego, Ca, Wesley Paul Anthony (Anita) of Golden, Co, Scott Frederick Anthony (partner Joseph Walker) of Sacramento, Ca, Shawn Francis Anthony (Lynne) of Salt Lake City, Utah, Todd Joseph Anthony (Christine) of Maggie Valley, NC; daughter, Julie Anthony Barrett of White Bluff, TN; 9 grandchildren, James Daniel Barrett, Brittney Anthony McPhee, Alexander Paul Anthony, Kieley Anthony Peterson, Ashley Alyssa Morgan Barrett, Erin Rose Anthony, Bailee Anthony Avallone, Mary Ragan Anthony, Shannon Louise Nicole Anthony; 6 great granddaughters, Adi, Opal, Hazel, Kollins, Elayna, and Lenora.
