Mr. James Lloyd Sloan, Jr., age 90 of Kingston Springs, TN, went to his heavenly home on September 26, 2023 while surrounded by his family.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 29, 2023 at the Harpeth Baptist Church, 1011 Butterworth Road, Kingston Springs, TN.  Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday, September 28, 2023 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Friday from 9:30 AM until the time of service.  His place of rest will be in the Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.  For those desiring, memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Mr. Sloan, know to many as “Jim,” was born on January 7, 1933 in Linden, TN.    He was a son of the late James and Immogene Ledbetter Sloan.  Jim was a Veteran having served his country in the United States Army.  He was always proud of his service, his country, fellow Veterans, and the receipt of God’s protection and grace.  In 1956, he married Marian Talley, and began a journey that would last a lifetime, and yes there are many stories to tell.  Jim and his “Kiddo” would live an active life full of adventure.  While living in Hohenwald, TN, he developed an interest in cars and raced on the dirt track.  He enjoyed antique cars and car shows, having received first place on more than one occasion.  He personally performed a full restoration on his 1925 Chevrolet.  He also owned and flew an ultralight and chinook aircraft.  He also enjoyed being outdoors and the sport of hunting.  Of all the trophies that he could display, Jim was most proud of his family.  Family was first, he loved them all, collectively and independently.  He also loved his church family at the Harpeth Baptist Church.

Mr. Sloan is survived by his loving wife of nearly 67 years, Marian Talley “Kiddo” Sloan; his three daughters, Cindy Sloan, Teresa Liles (Hillard), and Jimmie Kaye Street (Tim).  He was the proud grandfather of Lacey Steverson, Adam Liles, Matt Street, Hillary Tompkins (Chris), Cody Street (Grace), and Colton Greer (Ali); great grandfather of Hunter Tompkins, Destiny Tompkins, Ethan Tompkins, Colby Street, Samantha Street, TonTon Street, Dylan Street, Mayumi Street, Rowan Greer, and Marlie Liles.  Also surviving is his brother, Charles Terrance Sloan, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Eddie Whitson.
