Thelma Burns Tummins Carpenter, age 85 of McEwen, TN died on January 31, 2024. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at the Taylor Funeral Home with Bro. Charles Potter speaking. The visitation will be held on Saturday from 12:00 noon until the time of service. Interment will be in the Fews Chapel Cemetery.
Thelma, known to many as “Dig” was born on December 9, 1938 in McEwen, TN. She was a daughter of the late Neal and Wilkie Lucille Moore Burns. Before retirement, she worked her way up from the role of a patient caregiver to the position of activity coordinator for the former Green Valley Nursing Home. Dig loved life, she loved people. Her personality and sense of humor had a way of helping people enjoy life, brighten their day. She had much strength in her skills as a mother. She wonderfully fulfilled the roles of being a great wife, mother, and grandmother.
In addition to her parents, Thelma was preceded in death by her husbands, Bobby Tummins, and James Carpenter; her daughter, Debbie “Rosie” Bryson Sturgill; her grandchildren, Stacey Bryson and James Phy; her sisters, Betty Abernathy, and Dorothy Ann Burns.
Thelma is survived by her children, Cindy Thomas, Tammy “Bo” Phy (Jimmy), Kim Moultrie, Michelle Jackson (Darrell “DJ”), Timothy “Bubba” Tummins, Amy Mullinicks (Todd); her sister, Emily Burr; her grandchildren, Nathan (Hope) Bryson, Brooke (Greg) Breese, Brittney (John) Kim, Katie (Joey) Kelley, Jake (Carrie) Moultrie, Tanisha James, Joshua (Alisha) Jackson, Kaitlin Jackson, Erika Tummins, Logan Tummins, Walker Tummins, Zach Simmons, Garrett Mullinicks, John Collin Mullinicks; 24 great grandchildren and one on the way, several great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
