Carey Jerome Thompson passed away Wednesday morning, December 11, 2024, at home in Dickson, after a 2-year battle with glioblastoma. He was 73 years old.

Carey was born January 19, 1951, son of Inez and LC (Mac) McMahan. He is survived by his wife, Jean Thompson, his daughter Kate (Todd) Brison, his sister Andrea Bledsoe-Young (Steven) and nephew Zach (Jennifer) Bledsoe, his step-son Barrett (Sarah) Steward and their sons Jackson & Colin, and a wealth of extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and step-daughter Emily Steward.

Carey, a district attorney for the 23rd Judicial District, loved to live. He ran his first marathon at age 50 and progressed to full-distance Ironman competitions, remaining a triathlete throughout his life. He was a constant presence in community theater, spreading joy through a variety of characters. He was deeply involved in Dickson community life, serving on the board of the YMCA, The Renaissance Players, and as a trustee at First Presbyterian Church. He made friends with everyone he met… unless of course that person was a Tennessee Vols fan. Carey’s laugh filled every room, and you couldn’t help but smile any time you heard it.
HONORARY PALLBEARES WILL BE THE OFFICE OF THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY GENERAL, 23 RD JUDICIAL DISTRICT, LLS TEAM IN TRAINING COACHES, MENTORS AND PARTICIPANTS, THE RENAISSANCE PLAYERS, DAVID AND VICKY McMILLEN, MARC AND SOMMER PEARSON, DON AND KATHY CARTER, CHUCK AND BRIANNA RAMSEUR AND CASEY BAKER.
