Bob loved his grandchildren dearly. He also loved golf and football (Titans and Vanderbilt), and he loved “craft beer.” Bob spent 36 years with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a hydrographic surveyor, working in both Florida and Tennessee. After retiring, he continued to work, he held the position of safety coordinator with Midwest Construction and Luhr Brothers Construction.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Rebecca “Becky” Proctor Taphorn; son, Robert E. Taphorn III (Kaitlin) of West Virginia; daughter, Casey Reynolds of Mobile, AL; brother, Donnie Taphorn of Murphy, NC; sisters, Cindy Phillips (Tommy) of Beverly Hills, FL, and Debbie Ponder (Rip) of Nokomus, FL; brother-in-law, Dean Proctor (Athena) of Dickson, TN; sister-in-law, Cathy Burgess (Mike) of Colesburg, TN. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, Quintin Tidwell, Tatum Taphorn, Haleigh Warden, Faith Warden, Kaeden Herdman, Embrie Herdman, and Killian Herdman; 12 nieces and nephews; and many many friends.
Bob is preceded in death by his daughter, Lindsey Rebecca Taphorn (Oct. 20, 1986 – Nov. 22, 2022); and his parents, Robert E. and Eunice Taphorn.
There will be a celebration of Life at 5:30 PM on June 21, 2025 at Events on Main in Dickson, TN. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial to The ALS Association.
