Funeral services for Charles Fred “Charlie” Springer, age 82 of Dickson,           will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 6, 2025 from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Sidney Nance officiating, and Charlie’s daughter, Alicia, delivering the eulogy.  Entombment, with military honors, will follow in the  Chapel of Prayer Mausoleum at Dickson County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be on Friday from 4 until 8 p.m. with a Masonic Memorial  Service at 7:00 p.m.  Charlie passed Sunday, August 31, 2025, at a rehab hospital in Lexington, TN.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Shriner’s Hospitals, Gary Sinise Foundation, or Autism Speaks.

Born in Lawrence County, Tennessee, Charles was the son of the late Samuel Comer Springer and the late Verna Land Springer.  As a machinist, he was the owner of Charlie’s Alternator and Starter Service for 42 years.  He was a member of White Bluff United Methodist Church, Dickson Masonic Lodge #468, F&AM (Master of the Lodge in1999), Dickson York Rite Bodies, the Scottish Rite of Freemasons, and was an Al Menah Shriner and was a member of Dickson Chapter #291, Order of Eastern Star for many years.

According to his two siblings, Charlie was his mother’s favorite!  He served his country in the U. S. Navy, volunteering when he was just 17 years old.  Of all the hats he wore, he was most proud of his role as husband for 55 years to his wife, Linda, and of being father to his three daughters.  His two favorite philosophies in this role were:  “Don’t Worry About It! … It Will All Work Out.” And “Ice Cream Always Makes Things Better!”  Charlie was quick-witted and could always find the humor in most every situation . . . even if it sometimes landed him in the “dog house!”  He enjoyed traveling with his family and had visited all 50 states, with the exception of Alaska, Maine, and Vermont.

His travels took him to many Civil War battlefields and he toured all 16 of the Presidential Libraries.  He enjoyed reading historical literature and was an avid reader of everything by author John Grisham.  He was also an avid golfer and enjoyed many of the courses of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Circuit.  When his girls were growing up, he enjoyed swimming and water games with them and their friends at Camp Christian in the Burns community.  He also entertained them in their winter sledding expeditions (when they could find snow!)  He wanted to roller skate with his girls, so he learned to skate at the age of 35, and he took piano lessons from Mrs. Faye Nall at the age of 37.   Later, he enjoyed flying remote-control planes with his grandkids and his nephews.  His birthdays were special because of Linda’s homemade German Chocolate cakes and his Christmases were special because of her homemade fruit cakes and Maker’s Mark bourbon balls.

Charlie will be remembered as an honest, God-fearing, moral man and he dedicated many hours to serving his fellow man in his many Masonic endeavors.  Because of his humility, only God knows how many people he helped by his generosity with his material possessions and with his time and his efforts in helping and relieving others in their time of need or distress.  And in his quiet time, he found comfort and solace in gardening and mowing the yard.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Gaile Lyne Springer, and by his sister, Betty Rogers.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Faye Swaw Springer of Dickson; his three daughters, Alicia Springer of Lexington, TN, Trisha Bilbrey of White Bluff, and Trina Springer-Jones (and Danny) of White Bluff; his brother, Terry Springer (and Janice) of Burns; his two grandsons, Nathan Jones and Hunter Charles Springer; several nieces and nephews; and his grand-dog, “Roo.”
