Daniel Kay Moss, 72, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026, after a lengthy illness.

Daniel is survived by his wife, Martha Elaine (Daniel) Moss, and their son, Stephen Daniel Moss. Also surviving are his three brothers and their wives: Dr. Carl Michael Moss (Virginia) of Lebanon, TN; Wendell J. Moss (Janet) of Nashville, TN; and Thomas Allen Moss (Kimberley) of Dickson, TN. He is also survived by seven nieces and nephews, plus great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was born June 7, 1954, to the late Carl Wesley Moss and Mabel Jenkins Moss in Danville, IL. He and his brothers grew up in Bismarck, IL, and he attended the public schools there. After high school, he attended the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. He graduated with a major in civil engineering with an emphasis on structures. He became a licensed P.E. with a reputation for being thorough and accurate.

He began his career working for Conrail in Philadelphia, PA. This fueled his life-long fascination with trains and led to his collecting of model trains. For years after moving to Nashville, he took a small layout to the Adventure Science Center for Whistlestop Weekend. He designed and built another home layout which he was continuously adding to over the years that he enjoyed very much.

After working in Kentucky and California, he joined his family in Nashville. As he did wherever he worked, he was active in church activities and found a church family. The same was true in Nashville, and there he met and married Elaine, his wife of now over forty years.

After working for Turner Engineering, Ogden, and AMEC, he formed his own company and primarily did residential home inspections. He retired and closed his business in 2020.

Daniel was always ready to help with any job, no matter how involved or dirty. He built additions to his own house, helped add to his brother’s house, built props for Stephen’s marching band, enjoyed having a small garden, and was always ready to help family and friends. He was truly a good and godly man.
