Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 1PM from the chapel of the Taylor Funeral Home. Bill Watts will officiate. Visitation will take place on Saturday, beginning at 11AM until time of service. Burial will follow in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.
Doye Louise Tidwell Smashey, age 94, of Mt. Pleasant, TN, passed away on April 21, 2026.
Doye was born in Hickman County, TN, on October 10, 1931, to the late Elvin Tidwell and Ida Jane Dedman. She had worked many years as a seamstress for the Henry Siegal Clothing Factory. She oversaw sewing the larger overhauls, which she didn’t like, but was one of the best at handling the job. Later she worked as a cook in various restaurants. She loved to cook and everyone loved to eat what she prepared. She also enjoyed sewing and quilting and would often sew pillowcases and sell them.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Samuel Smashey, and her siblings, J.W. Tidwell, Gena Tidwell, Jack Tidwell, Elvis Tidwell, Hester DiBruno, Zelmer Tidwell, and Lenn Tidwell.
She is survived by her sister, Elaine Tidwell, her nephew, Kerry Tidwell, her nieces, Norma Sanders, Candy Seaton, and great-nephew, Chris Lawry.
