James Byrn, of Charlotte, died Friday, Nov. 15, three weeks short of his 100th birthday. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, November 18, 2013 at Taylor Funeral Home.

He was born Dec. 7, 1913, on a farm near Charlotte, son of Lucian and Annie Sensing Byrn. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Loggins Byrn, and two brothers, William and Horace Byrn. Mr. Byrn graduated from Charlotte High School. He was a traveling salesman for Liggett & Myers Tobacco in Mississippi in the 1930s. He served in the U.S. Army, 8th Air Force, in World War II in Europe.

He headed the U.S. Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service in Dickson County for more than 20 years, retiring in 1975. He was a member of Charlotte-Fagan United Methodist Church. He was also a talented musician.

Survivors include a son, Bob Moore of Charlotte, a niece, Dorothy Ann Petty, Blue Ridge, Ga., and two nephews, Joe Byrn, Clarksville, and John Lucian Byrn, Dickson.
