Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon, September 3, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. from the chapel of the Taylor Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Thursday beginning at 2:00 p.m. until time of services. Fire Fighters Honors will be observed at the close of the service. John Edward Fisher, age 86, of Dickson, TN died peacefully August 29, 2026, at Tri-Star Centennial Medical Center. He was born in Mt. Vernon, Iowa on January 26, 1940, to the late Ralph Scott and Betty Jean Messenger Fisher. He was preceded in death along with his parents by two sons, Jonathon Charles Fisher and Charles Edward Fisher, his brother Jimmy Fisher, his sister Janice Fisher. Finally, John was also preceded in death by his beloved four-legged companion Bo. Bo traveled extensively all over this country with John and Fern. He has been married to the former Fern Ferguson for 28 years.
John was a retired fire fighter with 23 years of service between the years 1962 and 1992 in Evanston, Illinois. Work was really an enjoyment to him, always working. While with the firefighters he worked part time with Allens Paint Company and later after retiring and moving to Dickson he worked with Stewart Lumber Co. for some 20 years.
Along with serving his community as a firefighter he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanic.
John and Fern loved traveling and spending their winters in Mission, Texas to escape the Tennessee winters. While at home here in Tennessee, John really enjoyed his trips to Tunica.
John Fisher was a quiet, smart and personable gentleman, a man of few words but so full of wisdom.
He loved collecting all types of things, especially beer cans. John spent hours reading and catching up on the world news. He loved car and automotive shows and was proud to be a FORD man.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Fern Ferguson Fisher, his sons, Robert Fisher (Angela) and Scott Brooks (Louise), his daughters, Patricia Harvery and Mona Davis, his six grandchildren, Michael Patchak, Dylan Patchak, Seth Fisher, Jake Davis, Ashley Torres and Mary Beasley, and 16 great grandchildren.

I saw a post from Barbara Burke that your beloved John died. We are so sorry. John was such an amazing and loving friend and person. He now has angels in heaven attending to him. Our love goes out to you Fern as you mourn and so dearly miss him.
John will be missed. He was quiet but if you asked him a question he would tell you the answer. He was such a knowledgeable man. Bob and I will miss him very much. He was a great person and friend.

It’s been many years since I’ve seen John, the last time being a trip to TN in the 90’s. I did have the honor of working with him for almost twenty-years in Evanston. My sincere condolances Fern.
the first time we meet John we new he was a good guy because he loves dogs. and we were right. we are going to miss him. we thank God for all the good time we had together in Texas. we will see you in heaven. we love you John and Fern.
Fern and family, our hearts are full of peace knowing how you were blessed with the love and kindness of John. We are so thankful that he and Fred reconnected after so many years apart. We had hoped to get back there to visit again because we had such a good time with you both. Freds cancer got in the way! We pray for you and will always keep you in our hearts. I am a cousin , we had not seen each for over 63 years.We reconnected in 2022 ,We shared so much history in are childhood and when we got together in 2022 we just had so much to share. We talked on the phone and the last call this year we both said we loved each ! I will miss him.May he rest in peace,Fern and family God Bless

This is really ironic. I have on occasion searched for where John had moved to after leaving the Chicago area. I just did a search and up pops his funeral service. John worked for us for many years. He was a great guy. Nothing was too much trouble. He had some great stories about some events that happened on the job in Evanston. I glad that I saw this but sorry that we didn’t reconnect some time ago. My prayer and hope is that John is walking Heaven’s streets of gold.
