Jonathan Trevor Daniel, age 52 of Charlotte, TN passed away Thursday April 9, 2026. Trevor was a firm believer in Christ the Lord and took this difficult journey to Him daily in prayer. He was a family man who worked hard for his family and was well loved and respected by everyone who met him. Captain Jonathan Trevor Daniel was employed with the Dickson Co. Sheriff’s Office since 2000 and had a total of 30 years police experience. In the 26 years he was with the department, Captain Daniel held numerous positions including patrol deputy, field training officer, detective, swat team member, K-9 handler, and most recently as the captain for the criminal investigations division and terrorism liaison officer. Trevor loved his career and treasured the friendships he made throughout the law enforcement family.
Trevor was extremely smart. He was very knowledgeable in criminal justice and was always eager to learn more. He exemplified integrity, honesty, and value while upholding the justice system and protecting his community. At home Trevor loved his family and friends immensely. They were the center of everything. He worked hard to provide for them and valued every moment together. Trevor and his family thoroughly loved the outdoors. They spent many hours going to the creek, gardening, hunting arrowheads, metal detecting, collecting rocks and fossils, camping and just enjoying time with each other outside. Trevor and his wife enjoyed canning food together, making homemade Christmas candy, and he was also very proud of their sentimental Christmas ornaments they had collected over the years.
One of Trevor’s favorite things to do was to dig quartz crystals in the Ouachita mountains of Arkansas. He and his family looked forward to these trips every year. He would say, “it was the best and hardest vacation you will ever have!” He loved his family and friends like no other. He was a wonderful husband, loving father and grandfather, and a genuine friend. Trevor had an absolutely contagious laugh, and he loved the UT Vols. He was an avid gun collector and shared this passion and knowledge with his sons. Trevor loved his wife, Kristi, of 31 years, more than anything. If you saw one, you saw the other. It was apparent they were truly made for each other.
Trevor was the definition of “one of the good ones!” Whether you knew him as dad from his kids, Papa from his grandchildren, Jo Nathan from his wife, or Rover T, T Dawg or just T from his friends, he will be missed by all. The world will be different without him.
He was preceded in death by his mother: Deborah Ann Lankford Cunningham; his maternal grandfather: William E. Lankford; and his paternal grandparents: Robert James Daniel and Ruth Mash Daniel Brown.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Kristen “Kristi” Matlock Daniel; children, Whitney Danielle Barnes, Granville Luke Daniel (Kaci), Hadley Remington Daniel; father, Robert Daniel, Jr.; brother, Troy Daniel; grandchildren, Mason Harris, Eli Harris, Jett Daniel, Swayze Daniel, Landri Daniel, Fitz Daniel; step-father, Gerald Cunningham; step-brother, Trent Cunningham; maternal grandmother, May Lankford; father and mother-in-law, Dennis and Brenda Matlock.
For those desiring, memorial contributions are suggested to be made toward the Trevor Daniel Family Benefit Account at First Federal Bank.

RIP Trevor until we meet again in our Heavenly home.

Trevor was a good cop but a better man! There are not many who can leave this world having been a cop that long and never hear a bad thing about the guy, Never! It won’t be like that for me!! Worked with many cops and investigators inside and outside this state and he was one of the best! Rest In Peace now Trevor! Derrick Jones (TBI Retired and former Dickson County Deputy and Detective).
My deepest condolences. It was an honor to know and work with Trevor. He was a dedicated professional and respected by all. He loved his job, but he loved his family more. I hope you get some comfort knowing how many people loved and respected him. Praying that God gives you strength and comfort during this difficult time and the days ahead. Rest in peace brother.
Captain Randy Starkey (Retired)
I was deeply saddened to hear about his passing. Even though I only had the privilege of knowing him for a few years, he left a lasting impression on me. He was professional, steady, and genuinely down-to-earth — the kind of person you could talk to about anything.
Watching his strength through these last years reminded me of my grandfather, who also faced a long battle with brain cancer. That connection made me appreciate even more the quiet courage it takes to keep showing up the way he did.
I’m grateful for the conversations we had and for the example he set. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege to serve alongside him.
Rest in peace young man. You will be missed. Prayers for your family.🙏🙏
Prayers for you Kristi and the whole family! For Trevor to sit beside Jesus and talk of all the good things God let you do.
Susanne and I love you all.
I didn’t know Trevor personally but I did members of both sides of his family. He was my brother-in-laws second cousin.
I am so sorry for your loss. It’s these things we don’t understand why they happen. May the good Lord comfort you all during this time and the days ahead.
