Michael Ruben Bishop, 64, passed away on June 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and his many close friends

Born to Dan and Catherine (Van Cise) Bishop, Michael spent his life in Middle Tennessee, where he built a reputation for hard work, honesty, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. A skilled craftsman who worked with his hands throughout his life, he made his living in roofing, construction, and home improvement. He believed in the dignity of work and took pride in providing for his family and helping others whenever he could. Even after long days of labor, he could rarely resist finding one more thing that needed fixing.

Beneath his rugged exterior, unmistakable southern drawl, and years of hard labor, Michael was a man who loved his family fiercely and expressed that love through his steadfast presence, his generosity, and his determination to take care of those around him. He had a strong sense of right and wrong and believed that everyone deserved to be treated with fairness and respect. He was loyal to the people he cared about, and he never hesitated to stand by them. He demonstrated his love for others not through grand gestures, but through a lifetime of hard work, sacrifice, and selfless care for those closest to him. He was incredibly proud of his children and grandchildren and took seriously his role as husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Bishop; his son, Jason Bishop (Rich Basler); his daughter, Amanda Bishop (Daniel Foreman); and his cherished granddaughters, Alexus Portman (Nick Goins), Aleaha Portman (Cody Varden), and Abigail Noland; and a great granddaughter, Aubrey Goins. He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends whose lives were enriched by his kindness, humor, and dependable spirit.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dan Bishop and Catherine Bishop (née VanCise); his brother, Dan Bishop; and his sister, Peggy Bishop.

The family will receive friends at Taylor Funeral Home on Thursday, June 25 from 4:00-7:00PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center at TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, the Primary Stroke Center at TriStar Horizon Medical Center in Dickson, or Alive Hospice in Nashville. The family is profoundly grateful for the compassionate care provided by the physicians, nurses, therapists, and staff of these organizations during Michael’s final days.

Michael’s family and many friends will remember him for his unwavering love, his remarkable work ethic, his stubborn independence, his willingness to help others, and the countless ways he showed up for the people he cared about. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and, in the values, he worked every day to embody.

He was deeply loved, and he will be deeply missed.
