Mrs. Phyllis Darlene Harrell, age 87 of Burns, TN died on July 5, 2026.  A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, July 9, 2026 at the Taylor Funeral Home with Jonathan McEwen officiating.  Interment will be in Dickson County Memorial Gardens.  The visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Thursday from 11:00 AM until the time of service.

Mrs. Harrell was born March 6, 1939 in Dickson, TN.  She was a daughter of the late Lurton and Daphne Smith Schmittou.  She was a well-known, dedicated sales associate at Wal-Mart for 45 years.  She loved spending time with her family, especially the opportunity to watch her grandson bowl.  She also enjoyed fishing for catfish and visiting the casino at Oak Grove.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Harrell; and siblings, Bobby Schmittou, Carl Schmittou, Brandon Schmittou, and Armrilla Manor.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Cindy Ragan (Randy); her sisters, Paulette Yarbrough, and Pauline Moseley (Terry); her grandson, Cory Dean Gilbert (Marena); several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank Dr. Kirubanathan and her staff, The Care Giving Elite, and Caris Hospice for the care provided to Phyllis and the kindness extended to her family.

  1. I just would like for the family to know that I fully enjoyed being with Miss Phillis what time I got to be with her she was a sweet lady. She always told me every day when I leave. Be careful going on. I look forward to hearing that every day she was a sweetie. I will miss you, Miss Phillis.

  2. She was my favorite person! She was always so sweet and caring! She watched me grow up and I always called her “My Mrs. Phillis!” She will be missed! Love, hugs, and prayers to her family and friends! The Earth lost a sweet soul but heaven gained the PERFECT angel! 👼🏼

  4. I’m so sorry to hear of the passing of Mrs. Harrell . Both our family’s have a lot of memories together from the softball games and a few trips here and there. We had a lot of fun and were very lucky to meet such a great lady as Mrs Harrell . She was always smiling and laughing with everyone she was so sweet .Sorry I didn’t know she was sick. To hear of her passing was a shock. If I could have I would have been at her service. We have been dealing with work and the day of her service Terri was having surgery- .But are hearts and prayers are with you all and know we love you all and may God be with all the family.Cindy, I know this is very hard for you just know you have a friend if you just need to talk.
