Richard “Dick” Stockton Brush, 84, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 27 at home surrounded by his wife and family. He was born on October 27, 1941, in Nashville, TN. He graduated from Montgomery Bell Academy and The University of the South in Sewanee, TN.
He wore many hats and held many roles over the course of his life: Medical sales for 41 years, the Dickson County Sheriff’s Department and the chattiest delivery man for The Dickson Post. His most important role, though, was father and grandfather: teaching his family the importance of unconditional love, laughter, and showing up and being present. He had a passion for ALL sports particularly golf, football (Roll tide!), but especially any sport his grandchildren played no matter their skill level. There will forever be an empty spot on the bleachers and an empty place at our tables. To be loved by Dick Brush was to be loved wholeheartedly, without conditions or reservations – and what a gift that was!
He was preceded in death by his parents Clinton E. Brush, III and Martha Hughes Stockton Brush, and his stepson James C. Saunderson.
He is survived by his wife Marie J. “Beth” Brush, daughter Elizabeth “Beth” B. Cunningham (Mark) of Dickson, son Richard Stockton Brush, Jr. (Darah) of Longmont, CO, daughter Karen B. White (Chris Barbour) of Nashville, TN, step-daughter Laura Beth Prosser (Dr. Stephan Ramsay) of Cedar Park, TX; brothers Clinton E. Brush IV (Judi) of Alexandria, VA and Charles “Beeler” Brush (Paula) of Sewanee, TN, 17 beloved grandchildren and 14 precious great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the charity of your choice.
A private family graveside burial is planned for later this year. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Taylor Funeral Home.

I remember several summers in Bay Head as a kid and big cousin Dick would come bringing laughter and such an enthusiasm for life! He will be missed.
Dick was a wonderful cousin who visited me out west several years ago! He laughed, loved and cared deeply for family when he came to Bay Head for a summer visit! He will be missed. Carol Stockton Rankin
I was saddened to learn of Dick’s passing. He was truly a wonderful and caring person, who would light up a room with his presence. He will certainly be missed.
