Mrs. Rita Markin, age 87 of Bon Aqua, TN died on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at the Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, TN. A graveside service will be held at 5:30 PM on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at the Parker-Fowlkes Cemetery. Bro. Matthew Hiatt will officiate.
Rita was born on Sunday, June 5, 1938 in Dover, TN. She was a daughter of the late Lacy Roosevelt Wallace and the late Marvie Page Wallace. Rita was a kind and generous lady. She often cooked and delivered meals in support of community friends who were enduring a difficult situation. She maintained a classy presence throughout her life. She always enjoyed an opportunity to “dress up” and being adorned with jewelry. Rita was a good wife, mother and grandmother. She was known to spoil the great grandchildren, to the point of making it difficult for others to buy them gifts on special occasions. She was a member of the Burns Church of Christ.
Rita was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, Joe L. Markin; her siblings, Ruth Wallace and Polly Trenholm.
Mrs. Markin is survived by her daughter, Pamela Averitt; her grandchildren, Michelle Welch (Shad) and Joe Wayne Averitt; great grandsons, Conner Welch and Isaac Joe Welch.

Rita was one of the kindest, sweetest, caring, thoughtful people that I have ever known. She loved to give and help when needed. I worked with Rita when we worked for the state of Tennessee. She also loved to talk about her grandchildren and loved them and her daughter dearly. She will be missed.
