Robert Frederick Beisswanger, Jr. known to friends and family as “Butch,” died on July 31, 2026 at the age of 86 years. A service of Military Honors will be rendered at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at the Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association).
Butch was born on May 30, 1940 in Reading, Pennsylvania. He was the son of the late Robert F. Beisswanger, Sr., and the late Dorothy Mae Kemp Beisswanger. He was 17 years old when he joined the U.S. Army. During his time of service, he served with the 101st Airborne, 173rd Airborne Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division, and MACV-SOG while achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. He retired from the U. S. Army with 24 years of service. Butch was employed in the Special Delivery Department of the U. S. Postal Service in Tampa, Florida for 20 years. While living in Florida, he volunteered at a ranch for children and developed a great love for horses, something that carried over into his retirement years. He loved his horses, they gave him peace, joy and purpose.
Mr. Beisswanger is survived by his wife of 65 years, Doris Louise Pierce Beisswanger; his son, Robert “Bobby” Beisswanger III; his daughter, Cheryl Ann Polsley (Darrel); 2 brothers, John and Steve Beisswanger; 2 sisters, Eileen Eckenroth and Ruth Behney; 2 grandchildren, Shayna Wright (Justin) and Ciarra Polsley; great grandchild, Reagan and soon to be great grandchild, Jameson.
